Our scientists have made vital discoveries about cancer biology, including helping to show that the human papillomavirus (HPV) causes the vast majority of cervical cancers worldwide, overturning previous studies that had underestimated the link. Our research led to the development of the HPV vaccine, which is expected to prevent up to 90% of cervical cancers in the UK.
