The One-Eyed Hippo: poems and cartoons
Product details
Duncan Hurley, creative director at a major wine company, lived in Westport, Connecticut, USA, with his wife and family.
In 2019, aged 42, he was diagnosed with cancer. For the remaining two years of his life he wrote poems and took photos on his mobile phone in the rooms where he spent more and more time; at home, in hospital and on a last visit to his family and friends in England.
He sent the poems and images almost daily to friends and family and his determination to communicate throughout his illness has created this extraordinary collection. Witty, desperately sad, angry, loving, frightened, resigned, these poems and cartoons bring Duncan vividly to life.
The One-Eyed Hippo was compiled by his Aunt Jane, who lives in Wales and keeps geese, with help from his cousins, Zoe and Jessica.
